What’s the deal with your Kickstarter, Elisa?

A couple of months ago when I was talking about the expenses of self-publishing my boyfriend reminded me of Kickstarter. Since more books and media pieces are being crowdfunded these days I thought it might be a good idea for my novella too. I’d looked into it, prepared my campaign, and then right before I planned to launch, a friend found lots of ways to improve on the campaign story. I pushed the launch a month, worked on the project and asked around some more. Then, again, right before launch I hear that apparently there’s some readers and writers who condemn crowdfunding for several reasons. I’ve gone from confusion, to worry, through anger and have finally settled into… I don’t know. I literally don’t know what to do about this. My friends, my boyfriend, they all tell me just to continue as I was. There will always be people who find fault in whatever you’re doing and find a reason to kick you down. And they’re right, but I’m not sure if I want to take this risk. There are more downsides to it, and I feel like I’m severely lacking information to make a complete picture. All I can safely do for now is push this Kickstarter indefinitely until I know what’s best to do for me. At the very least until I’ve completely written, rewritten en self-edited my complete manuscript.

There are more downsides to having a Kickstarter to fund my book, and I feel like I’m severely lacking information to paint a complete picture of all the consequences. There’s one thing you could do for me though. Share your thoughts. About using crowdfunding for self-publishing a book (it would be like pre-ordering the book plus some neat extra’s), and let me know if you’re interested in reading and possibly backing Salandrine.

Sorry, er zijn geen polls op dit moment.

  1. I would devenitly pre-order it, if I can get to read some stuff beforehand (like the first chapter you just published) and if the price is something I can agree on.
I would wait untill you where done with the book to be honest. I probably wouldn’t pre-order before at least the story would be done from the front till the end.
