Writing Progress Update: Salandrine

Boy were these some exciting chapters to write! There was a lot of romance going on and it turned out to be so much fun to write! Aside from their relationship blossoming (subplot) the main plot gets a nudge in the background so sh*t can go down a couple of chapters further in.

Okay, this is kind of funny, cause I talk as if I’ve been writing for days, but the last update was on the 26th, which was Christmas. Then you have New Year’s soon after, so there weren’t that many days to write

So over the past days I’ve written 5763 words for Salandrine, adding chapters 24 up to 27 to the draft. They’re unedited, which is… new for me. I usually edited while I write, then edit some more. But this time I’ve done no more than one quick edit of half a scene. Progress in more than one way, right? 😀

I’ve got one more chapters in the second ACT, after which I’ll do a quick proofread or edit of the chapters I wrote and share them with my critique group. I’m confident I won’t enter another editing loop and stop writing, but will soon continue with the third ACT because oh my god the things that will go down and with Salandrine’s character development of the last chapters, it will be awesome! There’ll be another big fight (which was an unexpected twist for me as well :o), confronting an antagonist (is she? I don’t know how to classify her, but I don’t want to spoiler too much), and answers to some long awaited plot mysteries!

Salandrine’s new total wordcount: 50.339!

Here’s a few lines from the draft (unedited). I liked another one better but it was from a scene where things were just starting to get a little steamy xD So I went with this from chapter 24.

[Grimoires were more powerful and highly valued, but they had an almost ceremonial value to Mnalurians. Children received them after succeeding in their first arcane exams. Every spell they learned would be added to the book. When one came of age, promising mages inherited grimoires from family members or mentors. Especially heirs, the eldest child of family heads received at least one additional Grimoire which would be used to learn and add more spells to their personal Grimoires.

Salandrine stroked the course paper and felt a pang in her heart. She smiled, but she tasted the bitterness of her own emotions despite the sweetness of finally being able to call herself a mage in name and title.]
